Data policy and terms of use
Built Correct Steel · Last updated October 16, 2026
Built Correct Steel (“Steel”, “the service”) is a service of Built Correct LLC (“Built Correct”, “we”, “us”). It reads the construction drawings you upload and prepares a draft takeoff of miscellaneous metals, with weights, a buy list and a price sheet. This page explains what happens to your drawings and information, and the terms for using Steel. By creating an account, signing in or uploading drawings, you and the company you work for agree to it. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The short version
- Every takeoff is a draft estimate. Your estimator checks it against the drawings and specifications before anything is bid, bought or built. You, not Built Correct, are responsible for your bids.
- Your drawings stay yours. We use them to produce your takeoff, to support you and to keep Steel accurate and secure. We never sell them or show them to another customer.
- We learn general lessons, not your job. Corrections you make help us improve the rules Steel follows on every job. We never copy your quantities, prices or drawings into those rules.
- You can have your jobs deleted. Email us and we delete them, as described below.
1. Your takeoff is a draft estimate
Steel produces computer-generated drafts. They can be incomplete or wrong: a member may be missed, miscounted, mis-sized or placed in the wrong scope, a weight may be off, and a drawing may be misread, especially where drawings are unclear, conflicting, scanned or incomplete. Review flags, notes, “check scope” items and confidence indicators are aids, not guarantees, and a lack of flags does not mean a takeoff is complete or correct.
You agree that:
- a qualified person at your company reviews every quantity, size, length, weight, scope decision and price against the contract documents before you rely on it;
- the contract documents (drawings, specifications, addenda and the bid instructions) govern, not Steel’s output;
- Steel is not engineering, detailing, design, code review or professional advice of any kind, and its output is not stamped, approved or fit for fabrication or erection;
- you alone decide what to bid, what to price, what to buy and what to build, and you are responsible for those decisions and their results.
2. Your drawings and job information
What you give us. The drawing sets, specifications, addenda and other files you upload; job details such as the job name, client, location, bid date and scope; and what you do in the service, such as verdicts, edits, notes, prices, rates and settings.
You own it. As between you and Built Correct, your company owns its uploaded files, its job information and the takeoffs, price sheets and other output made for it.
Your permission to us. You give Built Correct a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, copy, process and display your files and job information as needed to run, support, secure and improve the service, including sending them to the service providers described in section 3. This permission ends when the files are deleted, except for copies kept as described in section 6.
Your promise to us. You confirm that you have the right to upload each file and to have it processed as this policy describes, for example because the owner, architect, engineer or general contractor provided it to you for bidding, and that doing so does not break a confidentiality agreement, a license, a law or anyone else’s rights. If a file comes with restrictions that do not allow this, do not upload it.
3. How your drawings are read
Steel’s reading is done by software on systems run by Built Correct and by service providers we contract with, including providers of artificial intelligence (AI) services. Pages and text from your drawings, with your job details, are sent to these providers only to produce and check your takeoff. Each provider handles the information under its own terms. We send only what the work needs and use accounts held by Built Correct, not your accounts.
Other service providers host the service and store its data (Amazon Web Services, in the United States), send email, and deliver notifications to the Built Correct app (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service).
Built Correct staff and contractors can see your jobs when they need to: to support you when you ask, to look into a problem, to check and improve accuracy, to keep the service secure, or when the law requires it. They are bound to keep what they see confidential.
4. How we use information
- To read your drawings and produce, update and export your takeoffs.
- To run your company’s account: sign-in, people, settings, alerts when a read finishes, and support.
- To keep the service accurate. We may read a set again, or compare the takeoff with the corrections you make, to test and improve how Steel reads drawings. What we learn becomes general rules that apply to every job; we never build your job’s quantities, prices or drawings into them, and results of this testing stay within Built Correct.
- To keep the service secure and working, to prevent misuse, and to meet legal duties.
We do not sell your drawings, job information or personal information, we do not share them with other customers, and we do not use them for advertising. We may describe Steel’s overall accuracy and use in our marketing only in a form that does not identify you, your company or your jobs, unless you agree.
5. Information about the people who use Steel
We keep each person’s name, work email, optional phone number, company and role; sign-in records (we send one-time codes by email and keep sign-in keys only as one-way hashes); and a record of how the service is used, such as the pages and steps opened, buttons pressed, files uploaded, edits and verdicts, with the time, browser and device type. We use this to run the service, to support you and to improve Steel. If you turn on notifications in the Built Correct app, we keep your device’s notification token until you sign out on that device or it stops working. Your browser keeps your sign-in and unsaved changes in its own storage on your device. Built Correct’s privacy policy at builtcorrect.com also applies.
6. Storage, security, retention and deletion
Your data is stored with Amazon Web Services in the United States and travels over encrypted connections. We limit access to the people and providers who need it and use commercially reasonable safeguards, but no system is completely secure, and we cannot promise that information will never be accessed, changed or lost without authorization. We will tell you without undue delay if we learn that your company’s information was accessed without authorization, as the law requires.
We keep your jobs and account information while your company uses Steel. A company’s admin can ask us to delete a job, a person or the whole account by emailing admin@builtcorrect.com; we delete it from the service within 30 days. Copies may remain in backups and logs for a limited time until they are overwritten, and we may keep information longer where the law requires it, to resolve disputes, or to enforce these terms. We may keep the general rules and statistics we learned, which contain none of your drawings or job information. Download anything you want to keep, such as your price sheets, before you ask for deletion.
7. Your company’s account
Your company’s admins invite and remove its people, and everyone at your company can see and change your company’s jobs. Each person uses their own sign-in; do not share sign-ins or let anyone outside your company use yours. You are responsible for what happens under your company’s account, and you should tell us at once if you think a sign-in was misused.
8. Acceptable use
Do not: upload anything you have no right to share, or anything unlawful or harmful (such as malware); try to get around sign-in, limits or security; copy, scrape, resell or sublicense the service or its output as a service to others; reverse engineer the service, or use it or its output to build or train a competing product; or use it in a way that breaks the law or harms Built Correct or others. We may suspend or end access that breaks these terms or puts the service or others at risk.
9. Plans, payment and changes to the service
Paid plans are billed in advance as shown when you subscribe and renew until cancelled. You can cancel at any time; access continues to the end of the period already paid, and fees paid are not refunded except where the law requires. We may change prices for future periods with at least 30 days’ notice. During a beta or trial, the service may be offered free or at a reduced price, may change, and may be paused or ended. We may change, improve or stop features at any time; when we end the service, we will give reasonable notice so you can download your work.
10. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, the service and everything it produces are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows: Built Correct, its owners, staff, contractors and providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost bids, lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, cost of materials, delays, back charges, rework or claims by others, arising from or related to the service or its output, even if we were told they were possible. Built Correct’s total liability for all claims related to the service is limited to the amount your company paid Built Correct for Steel in the 12 months before the claim arose, or one hundred US dollars if it paid nothing. These limits apply to every kind of claim, including contract, negligence and other legal theories, and they are part of the basis on which the service is offered.
12. Indemnity
Your company will defend and indemnify Built Correct, its owners, staff and contractors against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from the files and information you upload, your bids, estimates, purchases and work, your use of the service or its output, or your breaking these terms or the law.
13. Other terms
We may update this page. We will post the new version here with its date and, for material changes, tell your company’s admins by email or in the service; continuing to use Steel after a change takes effect means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be brought only in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest stays in effect. A separate written agreement signed by Built Correct and your company governs where it conflicts with this page.
